Step into My Sister’s Pixel Playground
Learning coding by building her own little 2D pixel world as her first step into IT and her first portfolio project.
A while ago, my younger sister Ceyline started getting interested in coding and web development from seeing me study and work in IT. That eventually led her to study IT as well.
As she started coding and trying out different things, she decided to create her first portfolio project by building this little 2D pixel world.
In tech, showing what you can build is often better than just talking about it, right?
🏝️ Ceyline’s Island
Her portfolio is basically a small 2D pixel adventure interactive game!
It’s built with JavaScript and Kaboom, and you can walk around the island, interact with things, and meet different characters. Including me ✌🏻😉, obviously.
You can check it out here and explore: Ceyline Island Portfolio Game
It's still a work in progress, so yeah, there are probably a few things that are broken or unfinished. But that's part of the fun, right? She’ll keep adding more stuff and and making it better as she learns.
How it started
Before she started creating her own projects, she would often ask me to build websites for her. But now that we have AI, I think she can finally build them herself. I've also made a few websites for her as birthday gifts over the years. A few of those:
- Birthday Site – Link
A simple and fun birthday website with lots of little CSS details, playful stuff, and fun audio effects.
- Birthday Site 2026 - (sneak peek)
A cyber-themed birthday experience with interactive puzzles, quests, and memories to explore.
- Valentine’s Page – Link
She used to come to me whenever she wanted to make something. Now she’s slowly starting to build those things herself. Let’s see what she builds next.
Anyway
I think this is one of the best ways to get into tech.
Just build stuff 🔨
It doesn't have to be useful. It doesn't have to be impressive. You can start by just build something because you thought it would be funny or cool. That's pretty much how this started too. And I guess this pixel island is just the beginning.
Have you ever built something just because you felt like it?
