Overview

This was my first HTML webpage, created in 2018 when I was just getting into web development. No AI involved 😂. It was a simple project where I could experiment with HTML and CSS and learn the basics of building a webpage from scratch. I used W3Schools as a reference while designing and building it.

Problem

As a beginner learning programming, I wanted to understand how websites were structured and how HTML and CSS worked together.

Rather than only following tutorials, I wanted to build a small webpage myself and experiment with the concepts I was learning.

Technical approach

The webpage was built using plain HTML and CSS without any frameworks or external libraries.

I focused on learning the fundamentals of:

  • Structuring a webpage with HTML
  • Styling elements with CSS
  • Choosing colors and basic visual styling
  • Organizing content into a simple webpage layout

The project intentionally kept the technology stack simple so I could focus on understanding the basics of web development.

Challenges

At the time, I was completely new to programming, so even basic concepts such as structuring HTML elements and applying CSS styles required experimentation and reference material.

Using W3Schools as a reference helped me understand unfamiliar concepts and apply them directly to the project.

Lessons learned

This project was simple compared to today’s standards, but it was an important first step in my web development journey and gave me practical experience with the fundamentals. It taught me that the best way for me to learn is by actually building things instead of just reading tutorials.

Looking back at it now, there’s obviously a lot I would change, like the structure, design, responsiveness, and accessibility. But I like keeping it around as a reminder of where I started.
